What If I Don't Like Running?

There are a number of other exercises you can do if you don't like jogging. Swimming is another great exercise that will raise your metabolism and get your heart rate within the fat burning zone. Remember you want to exercise at a gentle pace for a long period of time rather than just tiring yourself out within a few minutes.

Rowing is another great exercise. Not many people with a boat though and just be able to start rowing that easily though. The good news is that most gyms will have a rowing machine for you to use. It's a good exercise to do if your legs are tired and you want to rest them because rowing gives your arms and back a workout rather than your legs.

Remember the goal is to raise your heartbeat but not to the point where you are running out of breath.

Just Do Something!!

Whatever type of exercise you choose just make sure you get out there and do it. It's easy to make excuses and find reasons not to go to the gym or actually do the exercise that you have promised yourself that you should be doing. Don't let laziness win.

You will find that if you push yourself to actually do something for the first week or two then you will eventually get into the habit of doing it. Once it has become habit, you will find it a lot easier and you will actually start to feel guilty when you happen to miss your training session!

Remember not go mad and do too much at the start. So many people will go to the gym every day for the first week and then stop. Some people will go jogging everyday for a few days and then stop.. Don't let this happen to you.

Start as you mean to go on. Exercising every single day for most people is out of the question just because modern lifestyles don't really allow us enough time. The best advice is to just start as you mean to go and continue with it.

This means that if you think that realistically you'll be able to do you exercise session three time per week then start going three times per week and stick to it. Avoid overdoing at the start  and pressuring yourself into an exercise routine that you know you won't be able to keep up.

Howdy Didge - Well, I never did have the "overweight problem," but I read that you have to burn off or avoid eating 3,500 calories worth of either your body or your food in order to lose a pound or avoid gaining a pound. I don't know the truth of that, but it sounds like either a lot of lean meals or lots of exercise.

An interesting article although I would make a note about muscle building exercises. You are right that for losing weight you need cardio workout but unfortunately it doesn't only burn fat but your muscles as well. Less muscles means weaker body but also that your system will need less calories on average day to survive (muscles need energy, fat doesn't). So some muscle building exercises as an addon to the cardio workout will be very helpful in the slimming process.

As you mentioned gym, I have learned recently that they have a brilliant machine for quick muscles workout - Power plate. Few minutes on this after a proper cardio on treadmill, rowing machine or cross trainer and the results should come in no time :D Or at least this is what I keep telling myself in a hope of losing the extra weight :)
