Should I Buy a Kinect, Wii or Playstation Move?

By

What Console Should you Buy?

For this hub I want to look at the 3 major next generation consoles which are available. When I say next generation I'm taliking about the Xbox Kinect and Playstation Move which are the two new challengers to the Nintendo Wii.

The Nintendo Wii has been around for a while now and has been the king of family fun gaming for the last few years. The Playstation Move and Xbox Kinect however are the new boys on the block so how do they compare to the Wii?

The Nintendo Wii

The Wii has been around for a few years now and is still a firm favorite in many households. Even though it's starting to look pretty dated it's still a lot of fun to play.

The main advantage the Wii has is the price. It's a lot cheaper than both the Kinect and PlayStation Move, both of which are major investments compared to the Wii. Because the Wii can't compete with the other 2 consoles you can now get some fantastic Wii deals which also include the Wii Motion plus which increases the sensitivity and also the Wii Fit board which is needed for many of the more fun Wii games.

The shelf life of the Wii is running out rapidly, hence the many great bundles you can pick up. If you're not a serious gamer and you probably won't be using it much it's still fun and great for when you have friends over.

While there will still be many new Wii games coming out, you can expect many of the games developers to focus more on the other 2 consoles.

The main advantage of the Wii is the price.

The PlayStation Move

The PlayStation Move is an add-on controller to the PS3 which functions just like a Wii controller. So what's the difference? Well, first of all the Move is a lot more accurate and sensitive than the Wii controller. Basically it's much more realistic so whatever you do with the controller is represented on screen very exactly.

This means games like golf and tennis etc are much more realistic and much more fun to play.

Apart from the more accurate controller you also get to play games in full HD. The PlayStation 3 is the most powerful console on the market and the graphic are simply stunning. Plus the fact that it doubles as a BluRay player and has built-in WIFI.

If you're gonna use all the features of the PS3 then the PlayStation Move is actually pretty good value for money when you consider that it doubles as a DVD player. Plus now, because the PS3 has been around for quite a while, it's easy to find a used PS3 for sale no matter where you live.

If you were thinking about getting the Wii and you can afford the extra cash then the PlayStation move is a much better choice. It really does leave the Wii for dead.

Xbox Kinect

The Kinect differs from the Wii and PlayStation Move in that it doesn't require a controller, because it actually scans your whole body making YOU the controller! You really have to play it yourself to fully understand how much fun it is.

With the Wii and Move you move your controller to play which means you only control the arm movement of your on screen avatar but with the Kinect if you lift both arms and a leg so does your avatar! You can jump, crouch, walk forwards and backwards.. it is simply amazing!

This really is cutting edge technology! It is a leap forward and still in it's infancy. As a result many of the kinect games available at the time of release are not actually that good. Having said that, Kinect Sports is great fun and so is Dance Central and Kinect Adventures.

Anyone can play these games. All you have to do is stand up in front of the Kinect and it immediately recognizes you and you can start playing. It's that simple.

Conclusion

If you're strapped for cash or just want something to entertain you for a limited time then then the Nintendo Wii will be enough for part-time gamers.

For others who are willing to spend some extra cash the Kinect would probably be the best option if you have enough room. It really is the next level of home entertainment. The upcoming games for Kinect look simply stunning so the future certainly does look bright for Microsoft's new toy!

If you have limited room or happen to also be an avid movie buff who would get a lot of use out of the Bluray player then the Playstation 3 + Move is a good option.

At the end of the day it really does depend on your preferences. Personally I've been won over by the Kinect. It's a whole new gamig experience and I really can't wait to see what future kinect games have in store.

I have a Wii for quite a while now and enjoying it as there was no Kinect at the time of buying but I must admit I'm really tempted to go for Kinect. As you say, it's a totally different experience. For me it's more a way of being active in front of the TV in an entertaining way than just playing the game. So hopefully one day I will have enough of spare cash to indulge myself :D
